Summer term start for Little Music Makers

Calling all Little Music Makers!

I hope everyone had a good Easter break. Katy – my seven year old daughter – and I went on a four day road trip and we had a great time.

Little Music Makers sessions for next week will be as follows:

  • Monday 18th April 9.30 to 10.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 20th 10.30 to 11.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Thursday 21st 9.30 to 10.30 and 10.45 to 11.45 in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s

Here goes with the complicated bit:

Subscriptions – two different versions:

I’m not going to copy Subscription Details into this message x2 – it would get too complicated. If you want to subscribe and have my bank details stored already please feel free to do things that way – (please remember to include your Surname and post code as a ref) – otherwise I’ll have paper copies of all subs details with me at this week’s sessions. As usual it might take a couple of weeks to get all the subscriptions in and sorted – that’s fine.

Monday people – we’re on a five week run through to half term. We have two sessions, 18th and 25th April, then a week off again for May Bank Holiday. Therefore Monday subs rates for a five week period are: One Child £17.00, Two Children £25.00, Three Children £33.00.

Wednesday and Thursday people – We’re on a straight six week run through to half term so the subs rates for a six week period are : One Child £20.00, Two Children £30.00, Three Children £40.00.

I know some people can only make it along on a specific day, but if you’re usually a Monday person but know that you’ll come along on Wednesday or Thursday in the Bank Holiday week, please pay a six week subscription.

I hope that all makes sense. We will of course be offering a pay on the door option as usual.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and getting going again.

Cheers

Owen

Here we go again

Hello everyone,
I hope you’ve all survived half term ok. We made it through on a mix of sleep-overs and days out.
Because Easter is so early this year we’re going for a five week run through to the end of term. Paper copies of the subscription form will be around for the first couple of weeks.

Music Makers sessions for this week are as follows:

  • Monday 22nd February 9.30 to 10.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 24th 10.30 to 11.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Thursday 25th 9.30 to 10.30 and 10.45 to 11.45 in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s

The only other thing I’d like to mention is a “rebranding” of Junior Choir into Junior Music Makers. This project has been evolving over through the course of the year and it’s turned out to be far more than just a choir. We’re actually building musical awareness with lots of rhythm, movement and musical play as well as singing. The actual age range seems to be from around three through to four. If you’d like more details please let me know.
Cheers
Owen

Where did the time go and why does no one want their buggy covers?

Hi everyone,

It’s taken me until about now to realise that people weren’t pulling my leg when they said half term was only a week away. It all seems to have passed me by in a blur.

SO

Next week’s Little Music Makers sessions are the final ones before we break for half-term. It’s also perhaps worth noting that because of Easter being so early, the second half of our spring term will be only five weeks long, followed by an extended Easter break. I haven’t got around to calculating subscription rates for when we get back so I’ll put those out in an email over half term.

Buggy Covers:

I really don’t understand this bit. A week ago last Wednesday – ten-ish days ago – two Bugaboo buggy covers were left at The Edge after our session. I put out a notice about them last week. As normal for round here, it’s been raining – but no one has claimed them. (They’re currently in the old kitchen at The Edge). Is someone trying out a new swimming/water immersion therapy on their kids??

Anyway, enough of that, the Music Makers sessions for next week are as follows:

  • Monday 8th February 9.30 to 10.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 10th 10.30 to 11.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Thursday 11th 9.30 to 10.30 and 10.45 to 11.45 in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s

I hope to see you next week. Let’s all sing and dance our way to half term.

Cheers

Owen

Happy new year!

I hope everyone had a good time over the festive break. As usual I was busy with Christmas concerts followed by a road trip to family and then back for the new year’s gigs. I feel like I need a break! But that’s not to be. We’re starting Music Makers sessions again this week on Monday the 4th January at The Edge. I know that this is an inset day for some schools, but not all of them, so feel free to bring older people along with you on Monday if you’re keen to get back.
Congratulations to all new arrivals over the Christmas holidays. Thanks for the news from people who’ve been in touch, I hope everything is going well for all who are expecting!

Please find the usual list of session dates and times below:

Music Makers
Monday 4th January 9.30 to 10.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
Wednesday 6th 10.30 to 11.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge
Thursday 7th 9.20 to 10.20 and 10.45 to 11.45 in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s.
Junior Choir

I hope you can make it along at some point soon.

Little Music Makers sessions week beginning 13th September 2015

Dear all,
Thanks to everyone who made it along last week, and thanks also for putting up with things if you received multiple emails from me last week. Having now understood what the problem with google is – and how to work around it – I intend to send out one email a week for Music Makers sessions and one for Junior Choir.
This week’s Little Music Makers sessions will be as follows:
Monday 14th 9.30 to 10.30 and Wednesday 16th 10.30 to 11.30, both in Studio 2 at The Edge. Thursday 17th 9.20 to 10.20 and 10.45 to 11.45 in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s.
Now we’ve expanded to four sessions, we have room for new people, so if you’ve got friends who you think would enjoy our brand of high energy music making, please pass on details of our sessions.
Junior Choir kicked off in fine style last Monday – in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s, 4.00 to 4.30pm – there are new people due to come along this week and we’re still actively recruiting, so all 3 to 4½/5 year olds are welcome. Let me know if you’d like more details.
Cheers

Music Makers Junior Choir is Go!

Dear all,

Music Makers Junior Choir will hold its inaugural rehearsal on Monday 7th September, 4.00 to 4.30pm in The Youth Centre at St Clement’s Church, Edge Lane, Chorlton, M21 9AE. It’s for 3 to 4 ½ /5 year olds and is designed to build on the musical awareness that we foster at Music Makers and provide an introductory year’s experience into the world of personal music making. (I will be setting the room up earlier in the day on Mondays and coming over with my daughter from her school so won’t be at St Clement’s much before 3.45/3.50, so please don’t go away if you beat us to it!).
Important point to mention. All children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to these sessions. Once we get going you may be able to arrange amongst yourselves for different people to bring friends together etc. The important point is that because we are dealing with such young people, they must remain technically in their parents care in order for these sessions to be viable.
I want to run Music Makers Junior Choir on a subscription basis. There are several reasons for this. Firstly we’ll be moving into the realms of developing individual musical skills within the group. A regular commitment to attend as often as is possible helps with building this work.
Secondly, safety in numbers. I expect and know that young people’s confidence and skills will grow through the year. Initially however, we do need to have somewhere “for people to hide” within the group that will become our choir so we need to be sure of numbers. Thirdly, once word gets out about what we’re doing, the results we’re getting, and the fun we’re having along the way, I’m expecting the choir to become oversubscribed, so I need to know that I have the commitment from people attending.

If want to join our choir please get in touch and I’ll send you a booking form.

I’m very excited to finally have the created opportunity to return to this work – I trialled the idea with my daughter’s nursery class four years ago and it really works.
I hope to see you there, please feel free to phone or email with queries or questions. Owenlittle9 AT gmail dot com 07970 956575.

We’re starting next week!

Dear all,
I hope everyone has had a good summer. Just back from our hols and since I’ve been asked the question four times today, I thought I’d just get out a quick message.
Music Makers Sessions will recommence next week. There’ll be sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. I’ll send out details in time for the weekend.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all again next week.
Cheers
Owen

Wow what a turn out!

Dear all,

Once we get into summer music sessions I never know if anyone will be around to come along. Proof of the pudding and all that: we were very busy at our first Monday session last week, which was great.
Experience from the past two years of running the summer sessions suggests that things will be quieter now we’re heading into August, so don’t be put off if you thought things were too busy last week.
I hope you can make it along soon for more Monday Music Making in the school holidays.

Junior Choir – a natural progression from Music Makers Sessions.

I’m aiming to get a very junior choir up and running for the start of the Autumn Term in September. The time will be Friday afternoons, 4.00 – 4.30 pm, at The Edge Theatre. The prospective age range is approx 3+ to 5ish. (Flexible age range – the main point being that the kids must still relate to nursery rhymes – since this will form the core material we’ll be working with). We’re well on the way with numbers and just need a few more expressions of interest to get us to the point where I can book the space and get this new venture going. So if you’re interested or know of anyone who might be, please get in touch – thanks.

Cheers
Owen

Mine’s a pint? and fresh decoration!

Hello everyone – please find below the slightly convoluted details for this week.

Thursday People:
Well here we go – Chorlton Beer Festival is upon us once again, so as discussed last week there are no Thursday sessions this week at St Clement’s. We’re officially evicted for the sake of Baccus! The weather’s looking very good so I’ll send out an email early on Thursday morning confirming our busk in Longford Park.

Wednesday people:
Thanks to everyone who made it upstairs to the theatre last week. Studio 2 is now repainted and looking a lot brighter so we’ll be back in our usual location this week. I’ll make sure that we have windows open so there is also a through draft to go with the new décor.
So
This week’s schedule will be as follows:
Wednesday – 10.30 to 11.30 in Studio 2 at The Edge Theatre
Thursday – Longford Park Busk – 10.30 to 11.30 in the park on the far side of the swing park when you’re coming from Chorlton.

Hope to see you at either or both
Cheers
Owen
