Welcome to the new year (and some changes)

Dear All,
First things first, I hope everyone had a decent summer. We’re starting our term time offering again tomorrow.
The Music Makers sessions for this week will be as follows:

  • Monday 10th September 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 12th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Thursday 13th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s

(For anyone who was new over the summer the term time sessions are smaller, one carpet instead of two, The Edge sessions are down stairs in studio 2, St Clement’s sessions are in the white building behind St C’s adjacent to the car park).

Changes to Pricing Structures:

As those of you who have been around for ages will know, I’m very keen to offer good value. Our prices haven’t shifted for over two years now. I’ve decided to bite the bullet and use the start of a new academic year to change both our prices and payment options. (It is my hope – although the whole Brexit situation makes things very hard to predict – that following on from this, our prices can remain static for a further sustained period).
The new pay on the door prices for this year will be:

  • £5 for the first child
  • £2.50 for additional siblings

We always offer a pay on the door option at all our sessions.
As of now we’re ditching the Termly subscriptions option, and switching to a discounted Block Booking System which will work as follows.
Each Block Booking is valid for six months. You pay in advance for ten sessions at a price of £42 for one child, £63 for two, £84 for three etc. This price offers a 16% discount compared with the on the door price.
When you do a block booking you can use your ten sessions at any Music Makers session, you’re not tied to a particular day or time. Also the ten sessions can be at any point in a six month period, (this usually means that you’ve got about 20 weeks of sessions to aim at, with 6 six individual sessions available in most weeks).

I hope that all makes some sense, I’ll have Block booking forms available as of Monday. I’m very much looking forward to seeing you all again.

Cheers
Owen

Little Music Makers – not yet!

Dear all,
I hope everyone had a good summer. Just very quick message to try and forestall people wasting their time. We start back in nine days’ time, not this week – we begin on Monday 10th September.
I’ll be in touch again towards the end of this week with details of prices and offers for the new term.
Cheers,
Owen

Little Music Makers – we must be doing something right!

Dear all,
When we get to the end of this term Music Makers will have been running for five complete years. This is quite exciting, I’ve just googled fifth anniversary – in terms of silver, gold, ruby etc. – and apparently it’s wood! Does that mean I can get a new violin? (Don’t tell the present one that I said that or he might take offence and dump me in it!).
Enough of that randomness. We’ve grown from one session a week with just a few people there, through to our current six sessions plus Summer Mondays. A big thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far, and I look forward to meeting everyone who’ll join us in the future.
The Music Makers sessions for next week will be as follows:
Monday 11th June 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
Wednesday 13th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
Thursday 14th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s.
I hope to see you all along next week.
Cheers

Nitty-gritty admin notice through to the summer

Hello Everyone,
I hope you all had a good half term break. I spent mine doing gigs, invigilating at the Uni, and going into combat with the hordes of weeds that try to take over my allotment at this time of year (the best I can ever hope for is an amicable draw!!).
As always, we’ve got a long haul through to the summer holidays. We’re starting back on Monday 4th, and then running through to the week beginning 16th July – last session Thursday 19th July – that’s a seven week half term. (The good thing about this is that you save more if you subscribe – I’ll post payment options on here too).
The Music Makers sessions for next week will be as follows:

  • Monday 4th June 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 6th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Thursday 7th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s

Thursday people: Ken, the Vicar at St Clement’s, has once again kindly agreed to let us use the main church for the week in July that is affected by the annual beer festival so we’re good to go on the same schedule as Monday and Wednesday people.
I hope to see you all at some point this half term.
Cheers

No sessions this week, but news of summer

Dear all,
Just a quick holding post to say that there are no sessions this week – it’s half term (stroppy nine year old at home – going on fifteen – joy here!!) We’ll re-convene week beginning Monday 4th June.
News of the summer.
Last week I had a meeting with Dom – Manager  at The Edge – and I’m happy to be able to confirm that we’ll be running Summer Mondays sessions again at the start of the summer break. As before, they’ll run for the first four Mondays immediately after we break up at the end of July. More of that in due course.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good week and I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Have we just had the Summer for this year?

A bit cynical on my part I know, and I hope I’m wrong, but it seems to me that for the last couple of years we have a gloriously hot – but tiny – window of a few days in Spring, followed by several months of grey dampness that is the new British Summer. Come on weather gods, prove me wrong!
Enough “bah humbug” from me, thanks to Thursday early session for coming up with a perfectly in tune D major chord at the end of the shaker Twinkle Twinkle. I know I’m a bit of an anorak about such things but I got really excited for a minute or two!
The Music Makers sessions for next week will be as follows:
Monday 23rd April 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
Wednesday 25th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
Thursday 26th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s
I hope to see you all along at some point next week.

Little Music Makers, Cracking on towards Easter

There are traditions within Music Makers that just have to be observed. Christmas songs, playing “Happy Arrival” to new babies who’ve been with us as bumps, and last but not least, the Spring Chicken song in the run up to Easter. It’s good fun and I’ve got word sheets for it, so I think we’ll dust it off and give it an outing for the next couple of weeks.
The Music Makers sessions for next week will be as follows:

  • Monday 12th March 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 14th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Thursday 15th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in the Youth Centre at St Clement’s

I hope to see you all along for a bop and a jive next week.

Time for a break and news on the fake tenner

Dear all,
First things first, it’s Manchester half term this week so we’re taking a break. No sessions this week, we’ll be back on Monday 26th February.
Lost and hopefully to be found! Wednesday Early people, when we were dancing last week a silver ring – with a “twig” design – went missing at the back of the room where the buggies are. It wasn’t obviously anywhere on the floor when you’d all cleared at the end of the session, so best guess is that it dropped off and ended up in someone’s buggy or bags. If you could all have a quick search it would be really appreciated. Let’s see if we can re-unite the ring with its owner. Let me know if it turns up. Thanks in advance.
The results are in re fake £10 note. It took Nat West 17 days to come to a conclusion. They phoned me yesterday and said that the note was genuine – they’ve credited my account. When I asked they wouldn’t provide any further information on how the note had got in the state it had or why they were sure it was real. The problem this leaves me with – and potentially other small business people – is that Nat West’s note machine rejected it twice and the bank clerks were unwilling to accept the note as part of my takings. Does this mean that every time a new note manages to get into that state, it’s going to take over two weeks for the recipient to get credited? All a bit too much of a grey area for my liking.
I’ll be in touch towards the end of next week with details of subscription options etc. for the second half of the spring term.
I hope everyone has a good week.
Cheers

Music Makers and mis-matched term dates

Last week, people were asking about our half term arrangements, so I thought I’d post to explain how things work and why they get complicated.
First things first, there are two weeks of Music Makers Sessions left before half term. We’ll be taking a week off from Monday 19th February to Friday 23rd.
If you live in a Manchester Council borough, you’re perhaps wondering what I’m blithering on about! If you live in a Trafford Council borough, you’ll probably be aware that there’s a perennial clash of term dates between the two councils. This means that we’re running through Trafford spring half term, which is 12th – 16th Feb.
To be clear, we always run to the Manchester timetable, so if you ever want to see when we might be on, google the term dates for somewhere like Oswald Rd or St Clement’s C of E schools. That’s how I figure out what dates we’re going to be doing.
For me personally, and impacting on the rest of you, it means that we’ll probably have my delightful nine year old running the money side of things for our last week. (She insists she’s not coming unless I pay her to be there – the youth of today – so she might as well make herself useful!).
The Music Makers sessions for next week will be as follows:

  • Monday 5th February 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 7th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge
  • Wednesday 7th 9.30 to 10.30, and 10.45 to 11.45, both in Studio 2 at The Edge

Hope that all sheds some light on how we organise our timetable. I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Cheers
